Description

Población de Campos is a small village with a rich history along the Camino de Santiago. It is located in the province of Palencia, within the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. The village dates back to the 10th century and was mentioned in historical documents as early as 938 AD. Its name, "Población de Campos," translates to "Population of Fields," reflecting the agricultural nature of the area. Throughout the Middle Ages, Población de Campos served as a resting point for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The village is home to the Church of Santa María, a Romanesque structure built in the 12th century, which showcases the architectural style prevalent during the time of the Camino's peak popularity. The church features a beautiful apse adorned with intricate carvings and a bell tower that has become a symbol of the village.
