Description
Villarmentero de Campos is a small village located in the province of Palencia, within the autonomous community of Castilla y León, Spain. Historically, this locality has been a resting point for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago since the Middle Ages. The village is known for its traditional architecture, featuring mud-brick houses and the Church of San Martín, which dates back to the 12th century. The church is a fine example of Romanesque architecture and has a beautiful apse adorned with corbels and a semicircular arch. In the past, Villarmentero de Campos provided essential services for pilgrims, such as accommodation and food, and it continues to do so today, maintaining its role as a significant stopover point on the Camino de Frances.
