Description

Tosantos is a small village with historical significance on the Camino de Santiago. The village is known for its 16th-century church, Iglesia de San Esteban, which is dedicated to Saint Stephen. The church features a beautiful altarpiece and houses a revered image of the Virgen de la Peña, a 12th-century carving of the Virgin Mary. The locality has been a resting point for pilgrims since the Middle Ages, providing shelter and spiritual support. One of the most notable features in Tosantos is the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Peña, a hermitage built into the side of a cliff. This unique structure dates back to the 12th century and was constructed to honor the Virgin Mary. The hermitage is still used today for religious ceremonies and is accessible to pilgrims who wish to visit and pay their respects.
