Description

Zubiri is a small village in the Navarre region of Spain, known for its medieval bridge, Puente de la Rabia. This bridge, built in the 12th century, spans the River Arga and has a unique historical significance for pilgrims. According to local legend, if an animal or person walked around the central arch three times, they would be cured of rabies, hence the name "Bridge of Rabies." The village itself has a rich history, with the Church of San Esteban being a notable landmark. Built in the 13th century, the church features a Romanesque portal and a Gothic altarpiece. Zubiri has long been a resting point for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, offering essential services such as accommodation, food, and medical assistance. The village's strategic location along the Camino de Frances has made it an important stop for centuries, allowing pilgrims to rest and recharge before continuing their journey.
