Description
Ventas de Narón is a small hamlet in the province of Lugo, Galicia. Historically, it played a significant role during the Battle of Mount Medulio in the 1st century AD, where the Romans fought against the local Celtic tribes. The area was known for its dense forests, which provided a natural defense for the native tribes. The battle marked the end of the resistance against Roman conquest in the region. In the context of the Camino de Santiago, Ventas de Narón has been a resting point for pilgrims since the Middle Ages. The hamlet is home to the Chapel of Santa Maria, a 13th-century Romanesque church that has served as a place of worship and reflection for pilgrims throughout the centuries. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and features a simple, yet beautiful, architectural style typical of the period.
