Description

Torres del Rio is a small village in the Navarre region of Spain, known for its rich history and unique octagonal church, the Iglesia de Santo Sepulcro. This church dates back to the 12th century and is believed to have been inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Its design reflects the influence of the Knights Templar, who played a significant role in protecting pilgrims along the Camino de Santiago during the Middle Ages. The village itself was an important stop for medieval pilgrims, providing essential services such as food, shelter, and medical care. Many of the buildings in Torres del Rio, including the church, were constructed using local sandstone, which gives the village a distinctive appearance. Today, Torres del Rio continues to welcome pilgrims and visitors, offering a glimpse into the past and the rich history of the Camino de Santiago.
