Description
Rabé de las Calzadas is a small village with a rich history along the Camino de Santiago. Founded in the 9th century, it played an important role in the repopulation of the region after the Reconquista. The village's name is derived from the Latin "rubeus," meaning red, which refers to the color of the soil in the area. One of the main historical landmarks in Rabé de las Calzadas is the Church of San Pedro, dating back to the 16th century. The church features a beautiful Renaissance façade and houses a 17th-century altarpiece dedicated to the Apostle Saint Peter. Additionally, the village is home to the remains of a medieval pilgrim hospital, which provided care and shelter for pilgrims traveling the Camino de Santiago. Today, Rabé de las Calzadas continues to welcome pilgrims, offering accommodation and services to support their journey.
