Description

Orbaneja Riopico is a small village with historical significance on the Camino de Frances. It is located in the province of Burgos, within the autonomous community of Castilla y León, Spain. The village dates back to the Middle Ages and has played a role in the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The name "Orbaneja" is derived from the Latin "Urbs Vaneia," which means "the city of the plain." The village was once a significant stop for pilgrims due to its strategic location near the confluence of the Pico and Urbel rivers. The Church of San Juan Bautista, built in the 16th century, is one of the main historical landmarks in Orbaneja Riopico. The church features a beautiful Renaissance altarpiece and a baptismal font from the 12th century, both of which reflect the village's rich history and connection to the Camino de Santiago.
