Description

O Cebreiro is a small village located in the region of Galicia, Spain. It is known for its traditional round stone houses with thatched roofs, called "pallozas," which date back to the Celtic period. The village has a rich history related to the Camino de Santiago, particularly due to the legend of the Holy Grail. In the 9th century, a miracle known as the "Milagro de Santo Domingo" took place in the village's church, Iglesia de Santa María la Real. According to the legend, a local peasant named Juan Santín, who was devoted to the Eucharist, braved a snowstorm to attend Mass. The priest, who was skeptical of the miracle of transubstantiation, was astonished to see the bread and wine transform into the body and blood of Christ before his eyes. This event is commemorated by a silver chalice and paten, which are still displayed in the church today. O Cebreiro has long been a significant stop for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago due to its historical and religious importance, as well as its location at the entrance to Galicia. The village offers a unique glimpse into the past and serves as a reminder of the deep spiritual roots of the Camino de Santiago.
