Description

Larrasoaña is a small village with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. It was originally founded as a defensive settlement to protect the pilgrims traveling on the Camino de Santiago. The village's strategic location near the Arga River made it an important stop for pilgrims, as it provided a natural barrier against potential threats. Historically, Larrasoaña was known for its numerous pilgrim hospitals and hospices, which catered to the needs of weary travelers. One of the most notable of these was the Hospital de San Nicolás, which was founded in the 12th century by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Today, the Church of San Nicolás, built in the 13th century, stands as a testament to the village's historical significance. The church features a beautiful Romanesque portal, which is a highlight for many pilgrims passing through the village.
