Description

Irache, a locality in the Navarre region of Spain, is best known for its historic Monastery of Irache (Monasterio de Irache) and the Fuente del Vino. The monastery, founded in the 8th century, has played a significant role in the Camino de Santiago, providing shelter, food, and spiritual support to pilgrims for centuries. It has a rich history, having been expanded and renovated multiple times, with architectural elements from Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance periods. The Fuente del Vino, a wine fountain located near the monastery, is another important feature of Irache. Established by the Bodegas Irache winery in 1991, the fountain offers free wine to pilgrims passing through, continuing the tradition of hospitality and support for those on the Camino de Santiago. The combination of the monastery's historical significance and the unique wine fountain make Irache a memorable and important locality on the Camino de Frances.
