Gonzar is a small village located in the province of Lugo, within the autonomous community of Galicia. Historically, Gonzar has been a resting point for pilgrims traveling along the Camino de Santiago, offering essential services such as accommodation and food. The village's history is closely tied to the Camino de Santiago, as it has been a part of the pilgrimage route since the early Middle Ages. Gonzar is home to the Church of Santa Maria, a Romanesque structure dating back to the 12th century, which has served as a place of worship and spiritual refuge for pilgrims throughout the centuries. The church features a single nave and a semicircular apse, typical of Romanesque architecture in the region. Additionally, the village's traditional stone houses and rural surroundings provide a glimpse into the agricultural lifestyle that has been prevalent in the area for centuries.
