Description

Fonfria is a small village located in the Galician region of Spain. Historically, it has served as a resting point for pilgrims traveling the Camino de Santiago. The village is nestled in the mountains, providing a serene and picturesque setting for weary travelers. In the Middle Ages, Fonfria was a significant stop due to its strategic location between the mountain passes of O Cebreiro and Triacastela. The village offered shelter, food, and other essential services to pilgrims making their way through the challenging terrain. The Church of San Xoán, dating back to the 12th century, is a notable historical site in Fonfria and continues to be a place of spiritual solace for pilgrims today.
