Description

Cirauqui, a small village in the Navarre region of Spain, is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and charming atmosphere. Historically, Cirauqui has been an important stop for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago since the Middle Ages. The village's strategic location on a hilltop allowed it to serve as a defensive outpost during the Reconquista, when Christian forces sought to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. One of the most notable landmarks in Cirauqui is the Church of San Román, a Romanesque-Gothic church built in the 12th century. The church's tower, with its distinctive octagonal shape, stands out in the village's skyline. Additionally, the Roman road that runs through Cirauqui is a testament to the area's ancient history and significance. This well-preserved stretch of road, which includes a Roman bridge, provides a unique opportunity for pilgrims to walk in the footsteps of those who traveled the same path centuries ago.
