Description

Castildelgado is a small village with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. It was founded by King Alfonso VIII of Castile in the 12th century as a defensive settlement along the Camino de Santiago. The village's name is derived from "Castillo del Agudo," which means "sharp castle," referring to the now-ruined castle that once stood on a nearby hill. Throughout its history, Castildelgado has been a resting place for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. The village's Iglesia de San Pedro, a 16th-century church, is a notable historical site that has welcomed weary travelers for centuries. Additionally, the village's strategic location made it an important stop for medieval merchants and military convoys. Today, Castildelgado continues to provide hospitality to pilgrims, offering accommodation and services to those walking the Camino de Frances.
